Things to remember before travelling
- When you go travelling, take your travel documents – ID card,
passport with you when heading outside the European Union and, if
needed, visa documents. Before travelling, make sure the documents are
valid.
- Obtain as much information as possible about the country you
are planning to visit. Inquire with the embassy about the requirements
for entering the country (minimum daily allowance, visa, written consent
when travelling with children and the like). Before travelling, check
on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs homepage, www.vm.ee, regarding whether the travel destination is safe.
- For European Union countries, we advise you to take with you a
European Health Insurance Card. This is available from the Estonian
Health Insurance Fund, information line: 16363, +372 669 6630 when
phoning from abroad.
- If you are taking medication, make sure you have enough with
you, legally (sometimes a doctor’s certificate or special permit may be
required)
- Take with you contact phone numbers, the address of where you
are staying and the like, and let your friends and family know how they
can keep in touch with you while you are abroad.
- Always keep a little spare cash in the legal currency of a
given country. In a more exotic country, you may want to, in addition to
the local currency, keep some spare cash in either euros or US dollars.
Keep cash and bank cards separate.
- It is not a good idea to pack into your check-in baggage any items that may be broken easily, perishable substances, cash, jewellery, securities, and documents.
